Excellent story..
Thank you...
First of all, thanks for these wonderful Mandrake comics.
Secondly, its very nice of you to ask us viewers about our choices.
All formats seem to be very nice.
Given a chance,I would like to see
a 2-part comic--either 'THE RIVER OF FIRE'or'THE SCORPIA GANG'.
Is it ok with you viewers?
Its ok if for some reason, these are not posted.I'll enjoy whatever comes, since it comes from a truly great person like'COMIC GUY'.
And Iam sorry,CW Iwas not able to take any part in the quiz. But I assure you,in the days to come,I'll definitely try to answer(I hope)a few questions.
Bur Sir,in all fairness I think TPH should get a chance of seeing his choice as 50th post.I don't mind not viewing my favourite posts but TPH has answered some of the questions really well.He deserves a comic of his choice.
Once again hats off to you,CW for making this site a truly memorable one.
Hey,i forgot to mention my identity. In my earnest enthusiasm,I despatched the comment
without entering USERNAME.So sorry.
I was in a shock when I viewed it.
Today I published one Phatom strip by Falk.....his LAST.
Can read here:
http://dara-indrajal.blogspot.com/
P.S.- Also,for those newcomers,can read LAST Mandrake strip there....D231.
Bye,Sagnik
you are greatttttttt..... i enjoyed each and every comic posted by you. it will be superb if you can post first 25 issues of indrajal comics COMPLETE (WITH their FRONT & BACK COVER PAGES).if this is not possible, i would love to see FREWS.
Hi Praveen,
Welcome in comic-blogs..
If ya don mind Can I ask u,What's the speciality abt "First 25 Indrajals" ?? 'cos xcept their nostalgic-thing those r NOT that xciting strips of Phantom ,compare to the later ones ...
ALSO, 4 ur help,"among those upto No.25" ,alredy 18-20 comics r published in TCP/ICC & even in ANUPAM's blog!
But,am with u 4 FREWs
Have fun...
Anything that comes from CW is special and I'll welcome it.In fact ,CW,you are the best judge .
In fact I salute you for your cosistent performance day in and day out to satisfy your viewers on this great occasion of magical 50th post.
Come on viewers, where are you?let's fill this colourful blog with our comments. This is the only way we can repay CW for his wonderful effort.
#CG: Thank you for posting this comic, special thanks for the Rip Kirby story. I always wanted to read this one again, but didn't know in which indrajal it was published. When IJCstarted publishing two stories in one comic (making the stories to flow in multi parts), I disliked the idea. But now the same is coming to my help as I am getting other characters' stories also.
For the 50th post, I think this would be a good idea to see a story of your choice this time,
preferably from indrajal with some of your comments about the criterion of selecting that one.
Please check your email. I mailed you twice about my choice for 51st but it seems somehow you missed it.
#Satish: Thank you for recommending me but what better for the occasion than CG delivering his own choice.
#Sagnik: Perfect answer. I feel the same except for frews. The golden period of IJCs was in 70s specially the second half. Perhaps 2-3 years in 80s too.
#TPH:
Hi frnd, am feel same 4 this Rip comic.....it's just extended-story of a nice one ....The Lost Harmony or something so (No.425)...
But,i don agree with 4 Part comics ....what's bad in it? Rather,i realised those comics in-part r 'more' xciting !
*Great examples as Marchants of Death (No.263,264), Pisachini(No.279,280),Return of Tarakimo [with Mandrake] (349 -351) etc....later ALL Superb Kraken series of Mandrake ..there r sooo many, dude!!
Specially love those comics SOLELY contained Phantom/Mandrake as a part OR Mandrake/Flash as 2nd story....only those contained Rip/Corrigan etc sometimes bored me. :-(
AND, I agree that GOLDEN period was initiated frm '70s but I think it xtended till the end, i.e. 1990 ....don u've read Indrajals of late '80s ??
Coloring was fabulous that time too, with high-quality of pages :-))
SagNik
#Ajit:Thanks, but such a short reaction on delivery of comic of your choice!!!!!
#Satish:Many thanks for your generous words.Don't worry all those mentioned by you will be coming on our Indrajal Community Blogs (TPH/MTM/CW) in the due course of time.
Regarding quiz it will do appear sometime with more added flavor and variety.
#Praveen:Thanks and welcome to the blog.Regarding those initial IJC as rightly mentioned by Sagnik those are not of great quality as neither they were scripted by Great Falk nor they were illustrated by Moore/MCcoy or Barry, still if you insist then i will try to post those which i am having.
#Chandan:Many thanks for your kind words and over whelming appreciation.
#TPH:Thanks..you are always welcome on the blog.Ok if i am left with responsibility of 50th post i will try my best to make it a memorable one although it would have been comfortable for me to post the choice made by all of you.
Dear Friend strangely i didn't received any mail from you, could you resend it.
#Sagnik:As a kid while reading IJCs i was never comfortable with comics in part and use to get annoyed many times when i couldn't find the remaining part as i use to purchase these comics 2nd handily from a old book seller nearby my house so it was never sure to have access to the remaining part(s) of the comic.
Although i did liked the comics in part but those only which were too long to fit in a single part such as 'Slave Market of Mucar','Scorpia Gang' etc. but not those which were parted only to fulfill marketing strategies.
But now at present juncture of time i am comfortable with all those in parts as more no. of parts more no. of comic posted with more no. of credits and comments;o)
#CW:
I think what u mean r after No.25 as No.1 -25 ALL r Falk-Mccoy scripts & SUNDAY-STRIPS ....
After that,many Non-Falk Phantoms were publisfed ...
"i was never comfortable with comics in part and use to get annoyed ...."
Arre, same here!...me too annoyed by missing some 2nd/final parts when buying those frm old-book-sellers ...
BUT, what i meant is,if u get ALL parts, may noticed those r 'more' thrilling n also the 2-in-1 dose (Phantom/Mandrake/Flash)also perfect!
"But now at present juncture of time i am comfortable with all those in parts .......posted with more no. of credits and comments;o)"
Lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
sir you are doing a great job. please dont stop as it must be showering you with a lot of blessings and good wishes. the very early issues of indrajal comics (phantom) complete with their covers will be a cherry on the cake.
Actually,Dear Jyoti, most of the first 50 were posted by ICC/TCP.Iam sure CW has all of these but if posted,it will be only an repetition.
The only ones left in top 50 are
1--The Man Eating Plant/Issue no-7
2--The Playmate/Issue no-8
3--The Mystery of the Rattle/Issue no-14
4--The Girls/Issue no-30
5--The Deadly Swamp/Issue no-31
6--The Mystery of the Diamond Queen/Issue no-43
And if CW could provide us these later on,it will be just a dream come true.Let's all pray to GOD that this magnificient blog continues to entertain us forever
with some of the finest, priceless antiques(comics)you can only imagine to find in a museum.
And our museum is the great blog--CW.
Thanks,CW,Iam your fan for life.
Just hope millions of people flock to your blog.
Hi...
You were saying something about posting stories with Diana and Narda, just like this one.
Hope it still stands.
Thanks....
Mozz
#Sagnik: I disliked stories published in parts 'cause the wait for 7 days for next part to appear was difficult and irritating, knowing the story could have been fitted in a single book. Of course getting them together vanishes the difference.
You extended the golden period almost to the entire publication period. My question to you is, if required to mention best 5 years of ijc publication in succession, what period would you choose?
Chandan: IJC #31 The Deadly Swamp is same story as IJC #260 The Killer Gang, but the art work is different and the story is also heavily edited. Original McCoy work is found in #260. Moreover #31 is same as published by GoldKey (available on freecomicbooks blog). You can also check its Gujrati Indrajal version on gujjuphantom blog to be sure.
#TPH:
" I disliked stories published in parts 'cause the wait for 7 days for next part to appear was difficult and irritating"
Now,isn't it little childish complain??
I understand the irritation part,BUT then why always we need to get something in ONE time & can't wait ???
Man,Life's NOT abt getting all,but it adds xcitement/keep-interest-intact when there's something left....i.e. yet to achieve!
As I said, two years ago,I'd only a few Indrajals n also knew nothing abt these men...Mccoy/More/Fredricks XCEPT Falk....don even aware that Indrajal didn't covered ALL Phantom/Mandrake ,rather only a 40% or so....
BUT, then the xcitement of having a new 5/6 comics at a time OR read them (even though incomplete i.e. other part/s were missing then!) was much more xciting THAN these current 'Rich' level.....having so many IJC in paper,so many scan of ORIGINAL strips of P/M,which didin't appear in IJC etc....but the xcitement is LESS nowadays .....
'cos I've so many!!!!!
U may surprised to know that, I read several 'single part'of xciting comics in '90s & then got other parts some after 10-15 years!
And,then the joy can't explain in words!! Was lil' frustated b4 getting them, but NEVER was irritated....
I love this type of discussions even more than the comic-reading itself!
Take care,Sagnik
And about the Golden Period of Indrajal Comics,I honestly can't pick-up ONLY a 5-year-span frm the ~27-year(1964 -1990) of glorious run..SORRY 4 that :-((
Still if ya insiist,I can pick a few '5-yr-span' ....ONE was 1970-1975.(though 30% comics were crapy Charlton-Phantom...a shame for this Legand!),
NEXT was 1976 -1981 (hmm....no gap with former ;-))) & LAST was 1985-1990 (In this period,IJC published MORE re-peat version of P/M of golden era,rather Corrigan/Kirby etc. with current strips & Bahadur/Flash/Dara )
Sorry,I just can't ignore ONE PART just 4 lift OTHER ONE .....NOT 4 Indrajal at lst.....it's my passion, frnd!
#Sagnik: Dear friend! You missed the essential part of my statement yet again. wait of 7 days was difficult, "knowing the story could have been fitted in a single book." No objection if the story is long enough to require multi parts, but if the publisher uses its more popular characters to sell other not so rapidly selling ones, then it is surely irritating. Take example of IJC #V25N44&45 Ambush at Sea. This story could have been printed in one part, but they published it in two parts so that a local story could be sold at the same cover price. Such kind of acts made me feel irritated. There are many other examples. CG has already mentioned the same thing in his comments using his own beautiful style. CG:"but not those which were parted only to fulfill marketing strategies."
Man,Life's NOT abt getting all,but it adds xcitement/keep-interest-intact when there's something left....i.e. yet to achieve
I can probably understand you at my present age now but please try using these words in convincing a 10 year old impatient child who is waiting for his most desired thing. I have mentioned my "then" displeasure for multi parts stories so no suprise if it souds childish to you. As you said, most of your collection is a result of recent 2 years work. So can I suppose you missed first hand experience of waiting.
While mentioning the golden era, I neglected the 85-90 period because it mainly contained re-publication of phantom/mandrake. Only the originals should deserve a vote. Story-wise 70-75 and 75-80 are almost at par but illustrations and inking work are better in latter. Also the improvement in printing technology had its role.
The first impression is the lasting impression. First time I read an IJC was in 77. So, comics from that era are more closer to me. I think same is the reason for you liking the 85-90 comics more. What do you think friend?
"Take example of IJC #V25N44&45 Ambush at Sea.... "
I think u stuck @one-pt i.e. 'why IJC shudn't published only the popular FOUR'?? ..... yes,it's lil' boring to see few comics in parts BUT then THIS Ambush-at-sea is a 30-page-comic & that too after editing some parts (of ORIGINAL strip)...so may b u understand that,to fit in the 25-page-format(leaving 3 for other aspects as Ripley's/Strange-news-of-Capri etc.... ),ToI had edit further!
Also, here's Indrajal differs with DC/others with those extra-flavor as those published only central-characters n nothing else!
But,It's true, buiness was the 1st thing in their mind!
"please try using these words in convincing a 10 year old impatient child who is waiting for his most desired thing"
Man,we r ALL child here, when it comes to reading comics, specially Indrajals :-)....may our biological ages don support it,but it's the truth....
However,I sense a bit of mis-understanding of my words. :-(
"So can I suppose you missed first hand experience of waiting."
It's NOT that, frnd!I'd collect several Indrajals in 1st-hand frm 1988 to the end...yes,I may NOT have that amnt of xperence like u (being frm '77),but that doesn't mean I don had deep-liking 4 these series then.....rather,as I said,I was much more passionate in those days.
Thnx 4 sharing views..
SG
ONE INFO: only 15-20% of total part-comics were contained Rip/Corrigan/Buz etc & others either sole P/M or with M/Flash as 2nd hero.....
So,it wud b wrong to say that, ToI always looking 4 chep-buisness.....rather DC/ACK were more in such type of buisness, when they published Indian comics in either same-no-of pages OR in shorter-format-with-more pages,STILL with higher price!!....
Mind it, xcept Bahadur/Dara/few others (total 90+),IJC published ALL foreign characters ,whose copyright was belong to KFS of USA....
Can anybody tell about stories published by Diamond Comics after Indtrajal Comics Stopped Publication in 1990? How many Phantom and Mandrake Comics Digests were published ? Because as far as i know, Diamond comics published 2 or more stories in one comics? whether these were new storiies or old stories? whether they are still available in market?
Hey,guys,stop that please.
1 part or 2-part,its a comic and we should be grateful to CW for providing them all.We are here to enjoy them.
I don't think too many requests have turned up for 50th post,by the way.
May I have the pleasure of requesting one of my comic,CW?
Guess--'the river of fire'or 'scorpia gang'
And,Sagnik, if you possess so many why don't you display a few on your blog?I am yet to see a
Indrajal on your blog.
Anyway, let's all say a very big "Thank You" to CW for all that has been done for us viewers.
#Sagnik: I give up. You win. :-)
#Anon: Here is the info link for you.
Phantom in Diamond comics
#Satish: Dear satish. Despite all our noble intentions, the act of posting these comics on blogs may be infringement of law because the rights are reserved with KFS. Please understand that it would be difficult for Sagnik to publish them on his blog 'cause he runs his blogs (there are two) with known identity (almost).
"I give up. You win.:-)"
Dear TPH, I remember u once said that, posting comics in different blogs is NOT a matter-of-competition.....Think same goes to comic-discussions. I just xpressed my views & to support that use those stats, as personally I enjoyed most of the part-comics .....u r very much welcome to differ with me.....I like intence discussionsif ther's some logic, but plse don make it like a debate-2-win!
"#Satish: Dear satish............ rights are reserved with KFS. Please understand that it would be difficult for Sagnik to publish them on his blog 'cause he runs his blogs (there are two) with known identity (almost)."
Now,what is it??? If u dislike my words ,plse say it directly, taking my name,as I,unlike you,don hide my real name! OR xpress ur displeasure here.....BUT, not in this taunting manner!!!
I hate when pple behave like this way & provoke me to reply!Specially when they involve a 3rd person in iT :-((
I'm telling u it,'cos otherwise I can handle this type of taunt very well..... plse fell free to hate me,but don repeat it!
#satish:I have recently published a Falk-Phantom strip(D194)in MY blog, this is frm Post-Indrajal-era.....and,will continue only if readers r interested.
U can visit there. :-))
#Sagnik: Dear Sagnik. I sense some terrible kind of misunderstanding. Before it increases further, let me clear the things:
1) At no point of time I had any intention for a taunt. How you decided there was any such thing, I'm still guessing. I also like to talk straight only.
2) It was foolish act of mine to respond to a comment which was addressed to you. I am sorry for that.
3) Yes, I hide my real identity because unfortunately spreading the small amount of happiness to readers in form of these vintage classics actually falls in the category of law-breaking. If you are daring enough to go about it without any fear, you are very much welcome.
4) Discussions and debates are just two faces of a coin. You agree on some points and it's discussion, you disagree and its debate. I said you win just to put an end to that lengthy and tiring discussion.
5) Again I repeat, there was no such hidden intention of mine. This is just not my style of working.
Looking for a +ve response this time. :-)
please post some amar chitra kathas.
Priyanka
My apologies to all comic lovers for the sad episode. CW, plz continue with your great work. We are dying to see the golden jubilee post.
thanks. but i couldnt find 1-50 nos as you have mentioned ( in tcp & cw ). also many of them are not complete with their cover pages missing. these were excellent masterpiece drawings by B. GOVIND. i hope to see them .
Jyoti, you got to go once again thru the full thing.Iam sure you will find many.By the way most of those were by TCP and ICC.
And in our CW you'll find all kinds of old/new and even 2-part or 3-part comics, reading which you will have wonderful time. And all of them are with download links.
Just u wait for CW's sparkling Golden Jubilee post ,Iam sure you won't miss those early comics.
30 Comments over one post and only one by CW I think. I hope you guys have not angered CW over your needless misunderstandings.
pattu
#Chandan: Thank you for lifting up the mood of the blog. :-)
Does anyone want to discuss the types of 'needless misunderstandings'? ;-)
Dear CW, I am aware you will be inundated with specific comic requests for the 50th posting. I would like to humbly request the comics – Phantom, Journey to the Emerald Islands part 1 & 2. Many thanks and I applaud your half-century.
#Jyoti:Welcome. Most of the initial issues have already been posted on TCP along with covers,i will be posting those which are still left for posting.
#Chandan:Thanks for your kind wishes.
#Mozz:You have got one with Narda playing central role, more will be coming in due course of time.
#Satish:Thanks for your appreciation, your requested comics are in pipeline and will be coming out according to their turn.
#Priyanka:Welcome,i do have a few Hindi ACKs but didn't planned seriously to post them yet..might be posting them in near future.
#Pattu:Nothing of such sort, infact i was enjoying the debate between TPH and Sagnik...i am glad that it went off before taking any serious ugly turn.
#Anon:Thanks for your wishes, kindly leave a name next time so that i can address in a better way.
Your request has been placed in que.
