# Shaheed Bhagat Singh

23rd March is remembered as 'Martyrs Day' or Shaheed Diwas in Indian History as on this day in 1931 young revolutionist Sardar Bhagat Singh,Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged by then British government of India. Born on 27th September 1907 in Lyallpur,Punjab,Bhagat Singh was only 23 when he sacrificed his life for the country during his fight for the freedom of India.
To salute the spirit of freedom here are few rare original photographs of this legendary son of Indian soil for all of you which are collected from different-different unidentified sources over the net for which thanks to all of them.

Bhagat Singh, when he was of 12 years age.

Here is a article from 1988 issue of Dharamyug in which Bhagat Singh's mother remembers him and his other fellow comrades.

News of Bhagat Singh execution in 25th March 1931 issue of The Tribune.

Here is a comic on Bhagat Singh presented for all of you,it was published by a lesser known publication Gaurav Gatha, which mostly use to publish stories over eminent personalities of Indian history.Gaurav Gatha was started in 1980 and this very comic is only its 2nd issue. Its not known that how many issues it did published and in which year it ceased publication.

Here is cover page of another publication on Bhagat Singh by our Amar Chitra Katha.

Bhagat Singh was considered a salable theme in Bollywood also hence many movies were also made on him right from 'Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh'(1954,Prem Adib,Jairaj),'Shaheed Bhagat Singh'(1963,Shammi Kapoor),'Shaheed'(1965,Manoj Kumar) to 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh'(2002,Ajay Devgan),'23rd March 1931:Shaheed'(2002,Bobby Deol).
In 2002 there was not less than 4 or 5 released which all were based on Bhagat Singh, out of which only Raj Kumar Santoshi's 'The Legend Of Bhagat Singh' left its impact and rest sank without any noise.
Out of these i watched 'The Legend of BS' and '23rd March 1931:Shaheed',was impressed by script and direction quality of Santoshi's movie and by cast of Guddu Dhanoa's as Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol were quite fit in the roles of Baghat Singh and Chandrshekhar Azad repectively.
Imagined,it would have been better if Santoshi would have cast Sunny and Bobby in his movie rather than Ajay Devgan and Akhilendra Mishra.

I salute the great freedom fighter.

Had seen only the Ajay Devgan movie and I liked it. I Don't think Bobby or Sunny would have been better replacements. I am satisfied with what I got to see.

Bhagat Singh jaise mahaan desh bhakt ko hum sirf pranaam hi kar sakte hain.

Manoj Kumarji ki film kaffi khoobsurat banni thi. Uss me (Upkar se pehle) pehli baar Praansaab ka half-positive role tha. Logon ne usse kaafi pasand kiya tha. Prem Chopra ko Rajguru ya Sukhdev ka role milla tha.

Waise to dekha jaiy toh Rang De Basanti bhi Bhagat Singh Aur Chandrashekar Azad ke baare main hain.

Thanks for the comic link. Isse toh download karna HI hain. :)

Aap ne mujhe Bhagat Singh ka famous "Why I am a Atheist" article padne main sharma diya. :)

Interesting to see woh Gandhiji ke methods ke khilaf nahi the.

"The Romance of the violent methods alone which was so prominent amongst our predecessors, was replaced by serious ideas. No more mysticism, no more blind faith. Realism became our cult. Use of force justifiable when resorted to as a matter of terrible necessity: non-violence as policy indispensable for all mass movements."

TPH: There is no doubt that Santoshi's movie was the best among all with his direction and script quality simply unmatched but considering fitness or suitability of the cast with their characters Bobby and Sunny Deol do have a upper hand as Bobby Deol resembled quite a lot with original Bhagat Singh in his gate up and Sunny Deol was perfect to match the daring and strong physique character of Chandrashekhar Azad.If you closely compare the original photographs of Bhagat Singh and Azad with the Sunny and Bobby gate up in '23 March 1931:Shaheed',you can yourself detect the better similarity in resemblance.

My sincere gratitude to those martyers because of them we are a proud country.
Posts like this make you different buddy in the crowd of comic blogs.
Bobby Doel certainly resemble more to Bhagat Singh then Ajay Devgun but Ajay is a better actor then Bobby.

SB: Thanks buddy, yes no doubt Ajay is better actor than Bobby Deol but Santoshi knows very well how to extract work from actors.I am sure than if things between Santoshi and Deol family wouldn't been sour after 'Barsaat'(1995) then Santoshi surely would have chose Deols to do his Bhagat Singh film.
I will look if i am having any such Madhuri with me,though i remember having a 'Sushma' containing article on Sanjeev Kumar.

And as proof that comics are not just for kids, inspired by this post, I went and brought for myself ACK's 5-in-1 "Great Freedom Fighters" And "Great Revolutionary "series. One part of me was feeling guilty of depriving some kid of the only copiespresent. Other part realized that there is something called restocking and *I* needed these comics as much as any kid. :) :)

One childhood comic that really inspired was "Benni Madhav". Unfortunately never came across his history or that comic again. ..

Khoob kaha. Henry Ford (father of the automobile) said any one who has stopped learning (that is lost his childlike curiosity) is old. And anyone who has not, is young. :)
